About the workshops.

Ian Callanan is one of Ireland’s leading composers of liturgical music. He has been involved with liturgical music his entire life and has been composing music for over 20 years. He is an accomplished composer, arranger, score editor and workshop leader. As part of the preparation for the Congress, Ian’s services are being retained by IEC2012 on an independent contractor basis to support the objectives of the Eucharistic Congress through the interactive teaching of the new Mass settings in the national programme “Sing the Mass”, the hymn of the International Eucharistic Congress “Though we are Many” and other music that will support the preparation for the Eucharistic Congress in your school and/or parish.

How much do the workshops cost?

These workshops are sponsored by IEC2012, this means that the costs of Ian’s time and work are covered. However you will have to cover expenses such as travel, accommodation, administration and handouts. We will do our utmost to ensure that these costs are kept to an absolute minimum. You might consider booking some school’s workshops on the days preceding or following, the parish/diocesan workshop. By doing this costs can be shared.

Our Mass texts are changing, the implementation date has been set, so now is the time to prepare and be ready for the challenge that lies ahead. The first Sunday of Advent 2011 will see the implementation of the third revision of the missal. Understanding the challenges and opportunities facing the church in Ireland today this workshop will provide you with helpful tips for implementing new Mass settings in addition to a sing-through of new and revised Masses by Ian Callanan, Liam Lawton, David Haas, Marty Haugen, Tony Alonso and other composers from GIA Publications.
The workshop will walk you through the mass from Start to Finish, breaking it down into the different sections and explaining the “why, how and what” we are doing at each part of the mass. At the workshop you will receive a complimentary sample book and CD with new and revised mass settings as well as receiving a copy of the Mass of St Catherine by Ian Callanan.
Each session includes:
  • An introduction and sing-through of some new and revised Mass settings
  • Strategies for implementation
  • A walkthrough of the mass from start to finish
  • Ample time to “Ask the Expert”
  • A complimentary sample book and CD with new and revised Mass settings*
Complimentary sample book and CD available only by attending the reading session.

Prepare your choir and community with new Mass settings and revised Mass settings and learn to use them with confidence.

Emmanuel is a project of the Dublin Diocesan Commission for Sacred Music and promotes the use of Sacred Music in Secondary Schools.

Over 40 Schools and their choirs will participate in a spectacular evening of music from this programme. The orchestra, massed choirs will be conducted by Ian Callanan, a member of the Music Commission.
