Year of Faith Music Workshops

Latest News Oct 12, 2012 Comments Off

In proclaiming the Year of Faith, Pope Benedict XVI has invited the faithful of the Church to become more knowledgeable of the ten- ets of our faith, to experi- ence a deeper relationship with Christ and to undergo a conversion that leads to New Evangelization. This call to discipleship offers us exciting opportunities to grow in faith and in closeness to our God and the members of our parish

Ian Callanan, liturgical composer, is now taking bookings for music workshops that will inspire active participation during the liturgy. The workshops will awaken prayerful reflection and service to others and he will offer resources to help you celebrate and share in the Year of Faith. Full day and evening workshops are available. For more information contact Ian at (086) 249 0779 or by e-mail info@iancallanan.com

Why not invite Ian to come to your parish for a workshop on a Saturday and then on the Sunday Ian will stay and demonstrate how to encourage your congregation to sing?

In Beauty We Walk Workshops for 2012/2013?

Greetings from Ian Callanan. I am happy to announce the release of my latest collection of liturgical music “In Beauty We Walk” which is available from GIA Publications, Veritas Bookshops and which mayalso be purchased at my various workshops throughout the year.

I am writing to you in the hope that you may be interested in hosting one of these workshops of liturgical music in the 2012/2013 academic year in your parish, diocese or school. The workshops can be tailored to suit the needs of your community but will have a special focus on congregational singing and hints and tips for getting a congregation singing. Bookings are now being taken for Irish workshops. If you are based in the United States or outside of Ireland and would like me to deliver a workshop for you, please e-mail me as GIA and I are looking at a possible schedule of workshops for Springtime in the USA.

In the year preceding the 50th International Eucharistic Congress I was very privilaged to have had the pleasure of delivering workshops throughout Ireland, these workshops were very well received and it is my hope that you will be interested in hosting me once again or maybe for the first time in your community. You can be guaranteed a workshop that will energise your choirs with music that fits the ritual aspect of your communities worship.

How much do the workshops cost?

You are responsible for the following expenses : My travel and accomodation (if needed), stipends and handouts. I will do my utmost to ensure that these costs are kept to an absolute minimum. You might consider booking some school’s workshops on the days preceding or following, the parish/diocesan workshop. By doing this costs can be shared.

If you wish to have me come to your Parish, Diocese or School then please contact me at (086) 249 0779 or by e-mail info@iancallanan.com. You can also visit my website www.iancallanan.com for more information.

What people have said…..

Just to say well done over the two days you were here with us – there has been a lot of really positive feedback from parishes about your two workshops and a sort of cry of ‘why didn’t we have him before’. I was particularly impressed by how you led them through what the music in liturgy is about without lecturing them….thanks, that was great. Frances form Kerry

I just wanted to pass on my thanks to you for the great day I had in Ballincollig. I was thinking this was going to be a long day but with your great singing, guitar playing and plenty of good humour thrown in you made it such a wonderful day. I loved the selection of music and look forward to passing on the new material to my folk group. I look forward to being part of future workshops with you….you are an inspiration to us all. It is my hope that the music contained in this collection will evoke states of healing, comfort, and love, whether sung by the gathered faithful in our communities or by listening to this recording.

—Ian Callanan

In Beauty We Walk, an exciting new collection from composer Ian Callanan, is a perfect combination of real-world songs for worship that implore us to become the body of Christ—to live together in unity as “one holy people.” The songs are suitable for use throughout the liturgical year and encompass a variety of musical genres infused with Celtic grace. “Lord Heal the Darkness,” “Come and Eat This Bread,” and the title track, “In Beauty We Walk,” all seek to encourage, embolden, and enliven the spirit. A striking song of farewell, “The Warm Embrace,” offers courage and consolation to those who have experienced the loss of a loved one. Track after track, Callanan deftly draws us toward conversion and healing while inspiring us to live out the gospel message every day of our lives. The music of In Beauty We Walk profoundly speaks to the heart—messages of love, hope, praise, joy, and thanksgiving. Immerse your liturgy and your soul in beauty!
